If your organization uses the electronic prescription features of Dentrix Ascend, users can view electronic prescriptions. If a provider should be allowed to order electronic prescriptions, you can enable electronic prescriptions for that provider.
To enable electronic prescriptions for a provider
How to get there
On the Settings menu, under Location, click (or tap) User Accounts.
The User Accounts page opens.
Select a user account.
Note: To quickly locate a user account, use the Search box to search for a user account by the user's last name, first name, user name, or email address. As you type your search criteria, the list of matching user accounts is updated automatically.
The options for editing the user account become available.
On a provider's User Account Information page, select the Provider Info tab.
To allow this provider to order electronic prescriptions, set the Enable Electronic Prescriptions switch to Yes.
If another provider must also approve electronic prescriptions that this provider orders, set the Additional Approval Required for Electronic Prescriptions switch to Yes.
Note: This switch is available only if the Enable Electronic Prescriptions switch is set to Yes.
Note: Once electronic prescriptions has been enabled for a provider, he or she will not have immediate access to the electronic prescriptions features. After electronic prescriptions has been enabled for a provider in Dentrix Ascend, someone from Dentrix Ascend Customer Support must manually approve the provider in the DoseSpot administration tool before that provider has access to the electronic prescriptions features.
If this provider is allowed to prescribe controlled substances, set the Enable Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances switch to Yes.
Note: This switch is available only if the Enable Electronic Prescriptions switch is set to Yes, and the Additional Approval Required for Electronic Prescriptions switch is set to No.
Note: The provider must also complete an identity verification form and set up two-factor authentication to get authorization for Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances (EPCS). After EPCS has been enabled for the provider, the next time he or she logs in to Dentrix Ascend and attempts to access any of the electronic prescriptions features, DoseSpot will prompt the provider to start the authorization process. Consult the DoseSpot documentation for instructions on completing the identity verification form and setting up two-factor authentication: DoseSpot EPCS Setup Overview and DoseSpot EPCS Supplement.
