Many clients ask about suggestions for reports to use in Dentrix Ascend. Here are a handful that might be helpful for you:
Production Reports
Starting with the Production Summary - HSPA report, this report shows you selected procedure codes (which you can add/change), how many patients had this procedure code charged out and what the total and average production were for each one. You can use this to understand your procedure mix as well as compare the procedures completed by different providers.
Next, the Production Detail report (based on transaction date), this one is also pre-built and you can see by month what is the production for the office. It's also easy to add procedure charges (gross production) so you can compare gross and net production. You also can filter by provider to drill down into the data.
Collection Detail Report
This report was changed so that it is based on applied date - therefore it will not be the best report to use to show your total collections unless you change the date to use Transaction date instead.
This pre-built report shows you by month what collection came in by provider based on applied date. If you ever wonder about the "not available, spaces" that show up - I'll show you here how you can add the patient field so you can understand why that comes up. In this collection detail report, this 'not available, spaces' probably references money that is unapplied - therefore, it doesn't have a provider to be listed under. To use this report - remove the existing dates and filters and then replace with Transaction dates and filters. This is not included in the video below.
As an aside, the best report to use for paying your providers on collections is the Applied Collections report (also pre-built). Here is a link to that article: Paying Dentists on Collections.
Adjustment Detail Report
There is a very nice adjustment report now located in the Insights Dashboard.
Or if you want to build one from scratch, start with the Financial tab and choose the Analysis ledger report builder. This report helps you to see exactly which patients received an adjustment and for how much. This can be very helpful for offices that want to keep a close eye on the adjustments used. I like including the field 'production or collection' as well - this will include a column that shows whether the adjustment impacts production or collection.
Net production and collection Report
This report we created from scratch to see our net production % and our collection as well. This shows you how to create a "calculated measure" to perform the math to see the % net production. This helps you to see how much you are losing due to PPO/HMO reimbursements as well as discount plans and how your gross and net production compared. In this video, I created a % collection as well.
Insurance Carrier Review
This report we will build from scratch, start with Financial Tab - the Analysis ledger report builder.
This report shows you by carrier, how many patients were seen, both gross and net production as well as the write off %. This allows you to see who your most popular carriers are as well as which ones are costing you the largest write offs. In this video, I also show you how to add color scaling to make it easier for you to see the variance in data.
