Probably the most fundamental task you will do in Dentrix Ascend is adding a patient record. When adding a patient record in Dentrix Ascend, it will automatically search existing patients to help prevent you from adding a patient that has already been added to your database. Non-patients that are created for billing purposes will also be created using this method.

- If your office uses an in-house discount plan you may attach the fee schedule when adding a new patient record. This will cause the ledger to calculate a discount based on the fee schedule attached.
- If a mobile phone number has been added to the patient record, the patient will receive a text message once the patient record is saved. This allows the patient the opportunity to opt out of future text messages, and also welcomes them to your practice.
